  • Cabot / Mortimer Clarke

I have had CABOT chasing me for around 6 months now for a couple of debts they bought of someone who bought them off someone who bought them blah blah blah. I was paying the debt off until I lost my job some years ago (late 2013). Then I defaulted and I also moved house so I never knew who the debt was with until recently.

I didn't respond to Cabot and now i've received a letter from their solicitors Mortimer Clarke threatening CCJ action.

I really dislike parasite companies who buy up people debts. I didnt mind paying the original lender, but i'm loath to pay these people.

Whats the best way to go about stalling or avoiding this? Its a long way from potential SB, September 2019 at the earliest, so realy what i'm aiming for is to get myself in a bit more of a stable finanicial position before agreeing to pay anything as i've just moved house and incurred all of that cost and started a new job which isnt secure just yet.

Also, they are sending to my previous address, i'm assuming they can launch a CCJ claim even if they dont have the correct address but what impact, if any, does not having my correct address make?

Any advice on getting CABOT To agree to a reduced amount to settle the debt? in case I have to pay up on these two.
