Court states the defendant has until 29 April 2025 to respond to a small claim I brought against them.
Does that mean they must respond by 4pm on 25/04/25, failing which the applicant can request judgment by default?

Form N205A Notice of Issue states the date the defendant must reply by, 29.4.2025 in your case
If you are using MCOL the database is updated quickly
Unfortunately not so with the paper process. It may take weeks to find out if the defence was filed by the deadline

If the defendant files their defence, albeit late, before judgement in default is issued, the court will not issue judgement

Was your PoC included with or detailed on the claim form?

As I used money claim online, and detailed POC on claim form, would defendants failure to acknowledge by 29/04/25 be automatically/immediately updated on database? I would also like to know how quickly I could request judgment by default after defendants failure to acknowledge.

Please read Practice Direction 7C - Money Claim Online 11.1 (1) and (2)
The claimant may request default judgement by completing an online request form at the website address provided
You could complete and send this form on 30 April

Where did you get that bizarre 4.00pm idea from?

Re 4pm, helped son recently with CAO, and Financial Remedy proceedings. All evidence etc that was ordered by courts stated that it had to be filed and served by 4pm on a specified date, so assumed that 4pm was considered to be close of business time.
