Hi,i need help,i'm 23,carer,and live on 60 income support,i've had a court letter today for an orange contract i took out when i was at college in 2010.what happened was the phone broke 3months roughly before my contract was due to end,i had no insurance as i was living on 30 ema a week,i phoned they said nothing they could do so i just stopped paying the last 3months. I thought it wouldn't be a big deal as i'd paid every payment before that for over a year never missed. please walk me through what to do,it says i have to go on moneyclaim.gov to respond,i thought i'd get your advice because you all seem to know what your on about. Lowells want total 237.69, which seems extreme and i cannot afford. I did receive letters before reguarding my bill but i just ignored, because it was only for last months and i thought they would give up. Shall i offer a minimum monthly payment out my benefit? thanks for listening.

Hi,

This is a common problem becoming more common by the minute!
The problem is stopping the payments leads to cancellation charges
being levied, all phone providers have little time for delinquent accounts
and sell them off very quickly.
The amount claimed will be any outstanding airtime costs + a hefty cancellation
fee.
Have you acknowledged service of the claim?
If not do so at Money Claim Online (MCOL) state intention to defend in full.
This will give us more time to try to find a defence to the claim.

You are it seems on a very low income are you sure you are getting all the
benefits you are eligible for?
a member of the LB team may be able to help on this point.
Kati any ideas please.

OK ... have you looked into carers allowance for looking after your mum? Is she getting benefits?

As for the court claim, if you acknowledge online (MCOL) and click "intend to defend in full" you'll get extra time for the Beagles like nemesis45 to advise xx

Okay, So I've been to MCOL and clicked defend, it's asking me for a reference and "Do you dispute the claim because you have already paid it?"

Answer is no, you are not disputing so there is no reference.

Yes, just make sure you have made a note of your password, problems with this are the most common cause failure to get back in.
