I received a letter from Jacobs hand delivered saying I had 48 hours to make a full payment for 3 outstanding Council Tax Bills, I called the Agents number and I said I couldn't pay the full amount he said I could pay today the 23rd I agreed to pay £900.20 which is what he said they needed or they would break my door down.
Today I have called him I couldn't pay the Full £900.20 as I have had to pay my sons rent who has Aspbergers to prevent him from being evicted I offered to pay £600. but he wouldn't accept this saying I wasn't good for it, he then said when could you pay the remaining £300 I said on the 06th Febuary he said no that will not do I want it all today or we are coming to break your door down and get the goods, we sold our house as it was under a repossion order and now are living in rented accomdation I have phoned my local council and they said that they can't ring Jacobs as I have defaulted, they advised me to ring the Citizens advice Bureua but they are constantly engaged and I am at work and cant keep going out to make the calls, Please help I am so afraid and so angry that he wouldn't take my money today.

First things first, try not to worry. The bailiffs CANNOT break your door down (or force entry in any way). You do not even have to answer the door to them if you do not want to, and they can't enter through an open window! If you keep your door locked they can't really do much other than shout and threaten (which is not good practice either )

When did they say they were coming back?

For CT debts, the bailiffs regulations mean that they have to allow you a reasonable payment schedule. They can't have what you don't have, so you need to sort out an income/expenditure sheet to show how much you can afford.

It is best to keep everything in writing with bailiffs, as you then have proof of any agreements etc... Any phone calls should be recorded if possible (and you should inform them that you are doing it)

I'm sure you will get lots of advice from the other Beagles too :tinysmile_grin_t:

He said they were coming back today or Tomorrow. I have tried to set up a payment scheme but he wasn't having any of it. Where do I send the income expenditure to
Thanks Kati, should I inform my Landlord that they intend to break the door down.

        hello charlie delta

        They sound a charming bunch.

You should read the section on bailiffs under the Money and Debt tab above. I

'd also be tempted to record any threats they make and then report it to the police. They cannot do what they threaten. They are not above the law.

They have to accept repayments that are affordable - don't let them fob you off

It's more for your records until youcan get in touch with the bailiffs firm to arrange one (letter or email)

No need ... they are just empty threats! The bailiff would lose his license if he tried that :tinysmile_twink_t2: - do you have proof he said it? I'd suggest you put in a formal complaint about it!

on Jacobs website, they say the address for complaints is:
          How to Complain
If you have good reason for making a complaint then we need to know. Please provide us with details of your concerns.
          You can make a complaint:-
          · in person to the Enforcement Agent
          · in writing to our Head Office:
          4 Europa Boulevard,
          Birkenhead.
          CH41 4PE

I think you should put in a complaint asap because threats and refusal of payment plans are definitely not allowed under the new regulations!
