When a 92 year old widow reported a telephone fault it took seven days for the engineer to drive 2.5 miles to her home to inspect
it. he fiddled with the wall socked for a few seconds and then said that the socket was loose. Then he left. She later received a bill from BT for £150 + VAT =£180. . I suggested that as this is rogue traders extortion she should report the matter to trading standards, but they agree that the charge is excessive but state that claims against BT are rarely successful and suggests that it would be cheaper in the long run to simply pay up and them but a mobile phone. This seems shocking as it is extortion. £180 just for one man to drive a van 5 miles and spend less than two minutes in the house. I hate to see the elderly being exploited so what can we do?
