I explained to debt collection company that the debt was under dispute with Southern water. to which they replied would put my account on hold and up date me. 2 months later heard nothing then received a pre action proctal letter, can they do this I did not even receive a letter before action.
No letter before action sent.

The pre action protocol letter IS a letter before action.Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Send both Southern Water and the DCA a account in dispute letter, make sure you get Proof of Postage.
Amend to your situation - refer to the fact that they were contacted on XX/XX/XX but have not responded to you complaint.
