  • Shulmans/Southern Water

    hi all
I have received a county court claim for Shulmans acting on behalf of Southern Water but have a couple of questions and am hoping someone can help.

I acknowledge the debt as I have been paying it off with Shulmans for a number of months but have missed two payments as my universal credit was stopped (which I contacted them and informed them). They wouldn’t renegotiate the payments when I said I could no longer afford the amount they wanted per month. I have now been hit with the claim. I have received two claims - one in my partners name and one in mine - do I need to respond and defend both? (Only one debt).

    do I have any defence?

Also they are atill trying to call me call me even though they have claimed in court - if I answer and try and negotiate again they will still need to put a stay on the ccj? Can I even defend myself as utilities aren’t covered under consumer credit ftom what I have read?

    thank you in advance
