  • County court claim form received but defendant out of country

Hi I hope someone is able to advise, My son received an A4 envelope through the post just a week ago at my address, he has not lived here for at least 5 years, he is currently working in France and only started there 3 weeks ago so can't come back or will lose his job. I contacted him and opened the letter and it was a county court claim form from lowell solicitors, who are acting on behalf of lowell Portfollio limited. to cut a long story short it was originally addessed to my sons last address which he left over a year ago when he split up with his partner who also left the property.l the alleged debt was originally with Vodafone but this is to do with a tariff mix up. The main point is this claim has come out of the blue as he thought it was resolved with Vodafone. It took me a few days to get contact with my son but he phoned lowells to give permission for me to act on his behalf as it was difficult for him to deal with it as he works very long hours. he was given a password for me to use when contacting lowells solicitors but because of the delay and bank holiday I was not able to ring until today the letter was posted on the 14th May but I didnt receive it untill 18th. My son has not received a letter from lowells before this but they may have sent one to his old address. When I rang today they would not talk to me as the password was for lowells solicitors but not for lowells financial or the litigation dept. I persisted and offered to pay but would not accept payment from me and seemed to be stalling. I contacted my son, he rang them to authorise me again but they have put phone down on him. What do I do?
