Hi, I suffer with complex post traumatic stress disorder,together with severe depression and numerous physical injuries,partially sighted and heart failure.
The following events happened to me. On 9 March 2025 I was at the ********* with my 3 year old Newfoundland dog with my carer and wife. Bueller is also my registered assistance dog and best friend, he was wearing bright yellow assistance dog livery and I was wearing his registered assistance dog identity card on view around my neck.
I served for over 20 years in the Army and deployed throughout the world, unfortunately I was injured once too many and was medically discharged with severe complex post traumatic stress disorder and numerous other injuries.
I am partially sighted with only one eye and my other eyes is struggling, I have blast damage in my left ear, concussion in my brain, spine and diagnosed as hearing impaired. All of my injuries were caused as a result of my army service.
I am registered as severely disabled with the war pensions agency and Department of work and pensions. My injuries and disabilities are long standing and severe and require constant care and support.
On the date stated I entered the *************** and once entered Bueller indicated that I was developing symptoms of my mental health,cptsd and I was in severe pain in my body,together with pain in my chest. Which was later to be discovered to be a silent heart attack. (Widow maker)
I was also starting to have flashbacks and developed profuse sweating, I needed to get out of the building as quickly as possible and into the disabled parking bays,(I have a blue badge)
I could see a door open with a sign showing an exit point and both Bueller and I attempted to use the door when we were blocked from leaving by extremely aggressive security.
Even though other people were using the door both entering and leaving i repeatedly informed them of my disabilities and that I needed to step out of door to take medication,morphine,and various other meds for my mental health (controlled drugs) and for my pain
I informed them on my disabilities and that I was a veteran with both severe physical and mental health disabilities. I was both mocked and insulted by them repeatedly and they seemed to take great pride in my humiliation and embarrassment that I felt.
I repeatedly requested that I'd be allowed to step out and that I was struggling and needed help, at the same time my chest was getting extremely tight and I kept drifting in and out of past combat back situations, smelling the scent of death and intrusive thoughts of dead and decaying bodies. By this time my dog was trying to get me out of the building as quickly as possible,it was evident to anyone with half a brain cell that I was in dire need of medical attention.
I was told by them if I attempted to leave I would have my tickets taken off me and kicked out of the show. My dog is also a show dog and was entered into this prestigious event.
I'm a peaceful law abiding person and I've never been in trouble with the law and in fact my family I have a long history of serving in the police. My daughter is a senior manager in the ministry of justice and my son serving police officer.
This point I asked them to make reasonable adjustments to allow me to use the door and pleaded and begged, I was desperate, it has since been discovered in addition to my other disabilities I was suffering with a silent heart attack. I suffered with a full heart attack three months later, which led to the discovery of the silent heart attack.
I pleaded and begged them to allow me to use the door but was just mocked and laughed at, I was told to use another door some 800 yds away with many stalls and lots of people in between and I told them I could not make it to that door due to physical and mental disabilities.
After further humiliation and being spoken to like I was a piece of dirt I was told that I was under arrest and detained.
Other security surrounded me stepping into my personal space and leaning their heads towards my own, as if they were going to head butt me in what was an attempt for me to become violent. I am trained and highly qualified unarmed combat instructor and it was obvious by their actions what their intentions were. These movements were made in a threatening manner,they were repeatedly warned to step back away from me and my dog. I did not react as I am 66 years of age and my world wide deployments have left a severe mark on myself.
A barrier was then pushed up against me striking me in the shins and hitting my dog who yelped.
I requested that a senior manager attended and after some time he arrived and I made a verbal complaint. He told me that an incident report would be compiled and matter recorded.
I followed this up with a written complaint two days later which was acknowledged by the **** who stated they would investigate.
After several other e mails to them they failed to responded to, I emailed them again after three months and was emailed back stating that they had not investigated the incident but would now do so.
After five months I again contacted them and yet again was ignored and was advised by the Equality commission that I could pursue them for disability discrimination and various other offences.
I was also advised that to bring such a case the time limit was six months, I issued three notices of impending court action,non of which were replied to.
I also wrote to them and stated the following:
Private security personnel do not have powers of arrest apart from that of a normal citizen in the prevention of crime & only where an arrestable offence has been committed.
In cases involving unlawful arrest and deprivation of liberty action can be brought when the correct test has been met, namely that a person has been deprived of liberty for any time, however short, without lawful cause.
Claim 4. Offences against the Person Act 1861,Criminal Justice Act 1988,Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
By your staff surrounding me and stepping into my personal space with a view to intimidate and threaten myself I feared that they were intending to assault me hence the reasoning by my repeated requests to step back from personal space and use a palming action showing open hands, creating distance between us. This fear and causation amounts to a case of common assault.
Your behaviour both during and after this event have been appalling and given your offices own, well documented failings it is indeed testimony how poorly the NEC treats anyone with disabilities. These incidents and other evidence will be included and brought to the attention of the allocated Judge in the County Courts Action that will be submitted in County Durham.
All pre action protocol has to date been met.
To stop this action being taken against you the following is required.
1. Acknowledgement of you and your staff breaching disability discrimination under the Equality Act.
2. The security company that you used during this event is removed from any future events at the ****
3. All staff involved including your own office retrained in dealing with disabled complaints.
4. A correct and thorough review of disability events management,protocols and included in any Security Events conducted at the NEC.
5. All security staff to actively display their identity cards on display as required under BSIA and SITO security and events planning.
6. All signage to be prominently displayed on exit doors,
As previously stated it is your staff and your own failings in dealing with the events outlined that has caused this matter to come to the issuing of Courts Action against you. I would have much preferred to have had this issue dealt with amicably, but given your behaviour you have indicated your refusal to do so.
I issued county courts summons against them,but I believe I messed up as I used the MCOL service I believe in error.
They have denied any of the above via their own solicitors and deleted CCTV showing their actions which is against the ICO regulations.
Every time I ask for data I am blocked or heavily redacted even though it is my data.
I very rarely sleep due to nightmares from these incidents and am unable to relax and in constant stress and so much anger at being treated so appallingly,even my flashbacks to army service seems to have increased significantly and I also experience nightmares with these incidents mixed in with my normal nightmares.
Almost every day I am having to think and deal with the NEC and now their solicitors,who are representing them.
I fully understand the security industry and the rules and regulations as I worked for several years as an operations manager once my injuries healed. This companies security is appalling they are the worst I have ever seen. Even their security were using forged hand made bsia identity cards. I have numerous videos of their staff assaulting disabled people in the past and attacking and punching females all for no reason.
Could you advise please, everything I've said is 100% correct and is held in written format.
They even had the cheek to ask me to travel from Darlington where I reside and travel to Birmingham to fix their broken protocols and failures.
Please help, I'm still recovering from a heart attack,but I'm determined not to let them get away with the humiliation I felt at the time and still do and their awful behaviour.
These movements were solicitors for the ****** have now written to the courts asking them to strike out the application which has been served, in my view is because they don’t want these matters to be aired in public and their clients portrayed as the evidence suggests.
How do I respond to the strike out requests as I strongly believe they should be held accountable.
