  • Chargeback scam - need advice on taking the scammer to court

I have been scammed out of £3,500 through a chargeback scam. A chargeback scam can happen in any walk of life but unfortunately, in my case, I was scammed in the cryptocurrency world (through P2P trading on Binance). I've reported it to the police but, unsurprisingly, they won't help

I have the name and bank details of the person who scammed me but I don't have their address or phone number. I am pretty confident that if I were to threaten them with taking them to the small claims court they would return my £3,500 but, as I don't have any contact details for them, I have no way of getting in touch with them...

Considering I have the scammers name, bank, account num and sort code, is there any way I can get their address? If this is not possible can anyone recommend a law firm who will help me?

    Hi JEFF80

    Welcome to LB

If you've got a first and last name you should able to track them down via google, i.e. 192, facebook etc.

Update after you've done some googling.

Thanks for the reply but I've already tried that. The name is unfortunately quite common so there's over 50 Facebook profiles with the same name in the UK. Not sure if I'm allowed to post the name on here so I won't just in case it's forbidden.

People post their interests on Facebook, search the 50, using Google and others tools for the word 'cryptocurrency'.

You can refine your search, rule out some people, i.e. over 50's etc.

Have you reported it to Action Fraud? You will get a reference number.

            https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/reportscam

Speak to bank next. You know the bank, ask them what you can do for personal details,
explain what's happened. The money in the account is 'proceeds of a crime'.

A long shot, but they might add a 'marker' on the account and suspend it
            from transactions.
