  • Buisness closure

Hi. I put my laptop into a computer shop for repair last Saturday. As I have not heard from them, phoned today. No reply constantly and after letting it wring for a while, I receive this message. The number you have called is not recognised. I think he has gone out of buisness and taken my laptop. Any advice on this

Obviously you are entitled to the return of your property. The first thing you have to do is locate it/the person who has it.

Might your laptop be covered by insurance?

Well I have home insurance but not for taking things out like cameras and things. I needed to to take it out to go to the shop. I know the shop and the owners first name. I do not have a home adderess to send legal papers to or send the police to.

I got an SMS from him to tell me to contact him. He told me how much it would cost to have it repared. I told him over the phone to go ahead. I have tried to reply to the SMS but it is a 5 number sms that can not be replied to.

He has my contact details so he should legaly contact me surly.

Have you any paperwork, anything that might give a name?

I lost a watch in the same way which had been given in for repair. One man company who unfortunately passed away. No way to get the property back.

Not really in that the business was then closed. If the laptop company has gone out of business it will be equally difficult. The goods should have been returned by executors but this did not happen.

Laptop company went bust? I got my laptop from Asus through Argos 3 years ago. Are you saying that both the repair shop and the shop you baught it from went bust? Was the repair shop the same place you bought it?

It is the repair shop for me that has gone. The laptop should be in the hands of the liquidator. He should know that it is not busness property to be sold off.

if it's Computer FX in Malton, my search results suggest a fair amount of leads that an enquiring mind might wish to follow up.

Have you been back to the shop premises to see if there are any signs saying what has happened and who to contact? Or if anyone is on the premises?

Are you in any local FB or WhatsApp group where you could ask if anyone knows anything? Others locally are probably in the same position as you.
