My solicitor has recently put in a public liability claim in for me. How long does the company's insurer(if they have one) have to just acknowledge the claim?I have in my mind it's 14 days or extended a little if I have got that right. Am I correct? While I am on it do the insurer have the same time to accept or defend said claim?

Ask your solicitor is the short answer.
The longer answer is it depends what is meant by "put in a public liability claim". If you mean that actual court proceedings have been issued or if it is formal "Pre-action Protocol Letter of Claim" [PAPLOC] then there are specific time limits. But if it is just a letter holding them liable there is usually no legal time limit within which they have to respond. All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. As general guidance (assuning all parties are in England) the PAP for personal injury claims would typically give the defendant 21 days to acknowledge receipt. The insurer would then have time to investigate and to decide whether to defend, depending on circumstances 3 months or more.
You need to ask your solicitor for the specific deadlines for your claim.Last edited by PallasAthena; 4th June 2024, 05:45:AM.All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. I am not a lawyer and do not hold any legal qualifications.
