  • County court claim Deference Help please!

    Hi all,
After recently returning from holiday, I found a county court claim letter waiting for me. I responded to the 'acknowledgment of service' but it was later than the 14 day period they offer. I explained the reason why I was not able to respond within the 14 days and attached evidence of my travels. CCBC have not yet replied.
Meanwhile, I contacted the claimant and their solicitors (Gladstone) for all the evidence they intend to use. Gladstone replied with their bundle of evidence that I've attached with personal information redacted.
I have no idea how to defend myself, so any help would be much appreciated.
Just to give you some background, this PCN was from a hospital car park which my wife and I had to frequently visit to see her dad. We always paid for parking when visiting the hospital, so I was surprised with this ticket. I was not the driver at the time, so did not pay the PCN and followed the instructions on this forum. I didn't count on it getting to this stage, now I feel a little out of my depth. I was considering reaching out to Gladstone for a settlement figure, just to avoid all the hassle. What would be your advice?
