What is the time frame to respond to applications from the court? Is there a mandatory time frame given to defendants?

Without knowing more about the nature of the application, I can do no better than refer you to CPR Part 23 and Practice Direction 23A.

    https://www.justice.gov.uk/courts/pr...l/rules/part23

    https://www.justice.gov.uk/courts/pr...t23/pd_part23a

There are specific rules applicable to certain types of application, such as applications for summary judgement.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf
