  • Further Steps notice for fine already paid - Help!

    Hi,

I'm new here, I hope this is the correct section to post in, and would be really grateful for any help.

Back in February, we received a letter from Marstons saying that we owed £145 for a toll crossing in Runcorn. Previous correspondence had gone to our old address - we moved but had not updated the address on the V5C, our mistake. We had no idea we'd done anything wrong at the time, my wife was panicking as we were lost on the way to Wales.

So as soon as we were aware, we paid the fine of £145 on the Marstons website.

We've just received a Further Steps notice from Greater Manchester Accounts and Enforcement Unit for £810. We've tried calling them to explain we've paid, but no one answers the phone - a quick Google shows that this is a common complaint.

So I'm a bit stumped as to what to do next - we've emailed them the receipt email from Marstons and also a screenshot showing payment. The standard reply says a response could take up to 10 days, which could be after a bailiff has taken our car!

We've also emailed our local MP and I've enquired with a local solicitor.

Does anyone have an idea what we can do? Could we raise a statutory declaration in this case, as we were aware in Feb but paid immediately - so it's an odd one.

    Any help much appreciated.

This is now sorted - got hold of them and it was something else. Nothing for 30 years and then two to our old address they're sending out a means form.
