Hello, I wonder if someone can help. We entered a County Court Claim against a firm of Solicitors for unpaid services. During the first lockdown the case was struck out as we had not received notice from the Court of a hearing date and we were ordered to pay the Defendnats costs. We now have a hearing date for our application to set this aside and arrange a new hearing date. However we have received communication from the Solicitor (Defendant) saying their costs currently stand at £4800. Our claim was for £1500. Can a Defendnat claim costs more than the origianl claim?

Absolutly they can but only if they win.

As a general rule solicitors professional costs cannot be claimed in a small claims court.
