  • Mysterious looking claim form

    Hi all -
I've just had a claim form through from 'Vehicle Control Services' and I'm really not sure what to make of it. It's made to look like a government document, with a fake version of the royal crest (which I'm sure is illegal) and a low quality logo saying 'The Country Court' with the ER crown.
It's for a parking breach back in march 2017, and in all honesty it's so long ago I can't even remember what defence I used. I had totally forgotten about it until I had a reminder through the door at xmas time and in all the chaos at the time I never got back to it. I've now had this through the door asking for £160 plus a £25 court fee with a login to respond to the claim online.
Is this legitimate and if my defence is poor due to bad organisation on my part and the length of time it's been am I best off paying?
    Thanks SO MUCH

Looks like the usual low quality county court claim form from Northampton.

Acknowledge using the details and password on the form. Nothing in the defence. This gives you the lesser of 28 days from date of acknowledgement or 33 days from date of issue to get your defence to court.

post up the redacted NTK if you still have it, but leave dates

    SAR to VCS
    CPR 31.14 request to solicitors

Thanks, I’ll see what I can find. If I can’t find anything is it fair to say I have no leg to stand on? Certainly don’t fancy driving to Northampton!

It will be transferred to the court of your choice later in the process

Hopefully the letters will bring the documents to the surface

Thanks for the reply. I cannot find the letters yet but am still looking (I'm having building work carried out and everything is in storage so it isn't easy!) I have however tried to 'acknowledge using the details and password on the form' as you've suggested but am a little confused. I have guessed that means completing the 'Acknowledgment of Service' bit, is that right? I have tried that but get to the 'Intention' portion where I need to say 'I intend to: Defend all of this claim or Defend part of this claim' and at this stage I'm not sure what to do. You mentioned at this stage to leave the defence blank but I have to choose one of those options at least; do you have any suggestions here at this point?

            Defend all of the claim

if you haven't got the docs then CPR request to the solicitor and SAR to VCS. Templates in the shortcuts panel on this page
