  • Solicitors invoice demanding £5k as alleged CFA terminated

    Dear All,

I am writing on behalf of my friend who has just few days ago received a letter and invoice from solicitors. I will include a letter.

We spoke to solicitors involved and the picture is a lot clearer now. I will give a quick overview of what has happened.

My friend had a car accident back in 2016 - she was innocent and other party admitted liability. She used, what she thought at a time, solicitors firm in London, as she had previous positive experience with them. As it turns out now these guys were not solicitors at all - they were just finding clients and directing them to solicitor firms and then acting as intermediate party between solicitors and claimants.

So this London firm contacts Harwood solicitors and offer them to deal with my friends accident. Harwood solicitors started the file, organised medical for my friend, alleged engineer's report was ordered too. Also at some point in 2017 or 2018 Harwood solicitors sent a £1,000 cheque to my friend which allegedly was to fix the car. She was given 9 month hire vehicle to drive before that. I have questioned if this £1,000 was not made a payment as of allowing my friends medical records to be accessed by the other party and was told no, it was definitely sent to fix the car. Sounds bit weird as I would have thought they would have organised a garage themselves.

Back in July 2018 London firm, that my friend has dealt with, went into liquidation. Even though they still operate in the same office just under the different name.

Harwood solicitors claim that at around November 2018 they tried contacting the insurance company of the person who was liable for the accident only to be told that my friend has signed papers for the other claim company to deal with on her behalf. Harwood solicitors claim that they have tried phoning and sending few letters in few months after finding this out but my friend has never received anything.

Also my friend has never ever received anything from this new firm that is acting on her behalf.....

My friend has visited the London firm after having received Harwood solicitors letter and was told not to worry. She was asked to bring her annual income and expenses statement instead with her bank statement for the last year too.

It is one hell of a mess now......I wonder how genuine do these Harwood solicitors are as to be fair it does not seem that they have done any decent work since October 2016 as until November 2018 there was very little that was done. However at the same time who has got the file of my friend? Harwood solicitors claim they handed the file to them but would not tell the name.....
