Horrible experience! Never again!

Hi, I would like to share my experience with you although I feel very embarrassed! I’ve been caught shoplifting from TKMax 3 products and bought a couple! As I wanted to walk out the security guard stopped me, took me in a room and I gave him and the possibly the shop manager the things back, I want to mention that I had no troubles before. I gave them my detailes but they had to call the police because the items was worth £200. I never had problems with the police before and the shop manager was actually willing to help me because I was cooperative and I was also feeling guilty. The police came took my details and I was signing some forms that the manager gave me to sigh and a ban from the store! As it was my first time I just give them the products back and I didn’t pay any fee or got arrested. The police took me home as I didn’t have a proof of address with me and they wanted to know where exactly I live so they won’t take me into custody! I’m really stressed and terrified as it was my first time doing such thing and I don’t know what to expect, plus I will move from the city in couple days. Can someone help with some advice? It would be highly appreciated!

First thing is to get your post to its own thread as otherwise it will become confusing (I'll ask Kati to oblige please)

Did you sign any forms from the police?
Did they say you would be hearing from them? They may ask you to visit for a voluntary interview.
In this sort of situation, as it was your first (and hopefully last) offence you will possibly be given a caution or a penalty notice.
If you are going to move before the police contact you, let them know your new address.

You will almost certainly be sent a request for money from a civil recovery firm (probably Retail Loss Prevention)..
If you move, you don't want them to be told you have moved as they might obtain an undefended judgement against you.
It is unlikely, but I don't trust these companies at all.
So arrange for your post to be redirected to your new address.
And ignore their demands

Keep the police informed of your whereabouts before you move and arrange for post to be forwarded for 6 months.

You will, most likely, get a few letters from other companies demanding money for the loss. Ignore these letters completely, they will eventually stop. There has been no loss, the security staff would have been paid anyway even if they had not had to deal with you.

TkMax and £200? I thought that was not possible.

Thank you! The police said that I was very lucky cause the manager wanted just an apology and won’t press charges or things like that! I asked them if I have to go to the police for something but they just said that is over and not to do it again! I wanted to know if this would go into my record or it would get difficult for me now to get a job..?

Thank you very much! Would something happen if I’m not paying? Like it would show on the record or something? And if I want to make a contract with a telephone company it would make it difficult? Thank you very much for the advice it’s the first and last time it happened and I was very terrified

Nothing will show, there has been no court case, no debt exists, police not involved. The letters you receive will just get more and more red ink used to try and scare you into paying when there is no need to pay. They will then give up.

The last time one of these companies persuaded their employer to try court the judge gave them a ticking off and they haven't tried again since. If you are interested try looking up RLP and the Oxford case.

Thank you very much! So basically is over and I don’t have to worry about something from now on, is that true? Lesson learned! I was worried cause actually tomorrow I’m moving to another region of this country and I wasn’t sure what I have to do!

Just to make sure set up a redirect of your post to the new address just in case the police want to get in contact with you. Ignore everything else. If in doubt then ask on here.

I’m really afraid not getting to court or something as my parents don’t know about this and I don’t want any kind of trouble. I know it was stupid but ive learned my lesson plus I moved to a different part of the country and I don’t want problems with getting a job or something similar. I really appreciate your advices

You won't get into any trouble.
As long as your post is redirected there will be no problems.
Just get on with your life and ignore RLP's unwarranted demands.
