      Re: RLP

Regarding any breach of the DPA complaints can be made to ICO.
The ICO cannot award compensation and for this you would have to pursue a court claim for the distress caused.

The HRA is only binding on public authorities (unfortunately)

Also, I'm all new to this so, in relation to contacting Citizens advice, how do I do this? and if I do this will I just be stirring things up and make them write more letters or will this prevent them from sending more letters ?

Here's the link for contacting Citizen Advice https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/ab...advice/advice/

Regret I cannot guess what effect it will have on RLP.
It might well make them realise you are concerned about your parents finding out and lead to an increase in threats.
It might even encourage them to write to your parents if they think they might be persuaded to pay their ridiculous demands.
It might even call a halt to it all if CB's letter is strong enough.

RLP are a law to themselves and don't possess any of the normal decencies

Does getting citizens advice to warn them make them stop quicker ? How do they get to contact their parents because I've never given my parents mobile number etc.

                  Re: RLP

I have assumed you were living at home and RLP would write there.
If the address you gave RLP was not your parent's address, just keep ignoring them.

Was it addressed to the "parent/guardian of ....."??
Is there any chance you can email me a scan/picture of the letter (kati@legalbeagles.info)?

RLP are well aware that they are treading a very fine line.

                            Here's a quote from their "Advice/FAQs for under 18s" ( http://www.lossprevention.co.uk/pdf/adviceU18.pdf)
                            4. Why does RLP write to the juvenile and not their parents? If RLP wrote to the parents it would be an infringement of the juvenile’s rights, (similar tothat of doctor/patient confidentiality). RLP advises the juvenile to discuss the matter withtheir parents or guardian who can assist in their best interests. (It is a fundamentalprinciple of data protection that the Data Protection Act confers rights on the datasubject i.e. the juvenile. Juveniles have the same rights as adults under Article 8 of theHuman Rights Act to respect for private and family life and in relation to correspondence.Disclosing sensitive personal data relating to a juvenile without consent or the grounds todo so would be a breach of their human rights, as well as their data protection rights.)This needs to be balanced with the juvenile’s ability to understand their rights andconsideration of the best interests of the juvenile. Where there is any doubt, or whereparents are already aware of the incident, the client reporting the case for civil recoverywill advise RLP who will write to the parents as well as the juvenile.

                            Point 5 is also interesting!

                            5. Can juveniles be sued in Court?Individuals do not acquire a civil liability until the age of 18. Under 18’s can be taken toCourt but only if they have a “litigation friend” who is over the age of 18 to represent yourinterests. The juvenile can appoint their own or the Court can appoint one

They don't seem fussed about the 'employment blacklist database' rubbish so can't see them intervening in the odd letter to someones parents. The ICO expect you to have tried to deal with the company first though ( as if !). But all grist to the mill. We really need to do something about this. The stores all just blank me now - tried all of their CEO's a few times now, even sent examples of the letters RLP send out... nothing back. Possibly just me as I tend to ramble, so if anyone else fancies a try...
