I know how stressful it must be having this hanging over you, but I think you are taking exactly the right line and attitude to deal with it.

I really don't know how these people are continuing to operate. The stores don't seem to want to discuss it.

Hi Amethyst, thanks for your supportive comment. I must say that while I do feel stressed by RLP's letters, this website is a brilliant resource & I'm so pleased that I don't feel alone in dealing with them.

For what it's worth, when I think of the total value of my shopping that the retailer has lost for the sake of their share of £147.50, I don't know why they are so keen to allow RLP to do what they do. It's bad business all round.

Here we go again, with letter number 3. I note the same vague but unsubstantiated threat that information that we hold may be passed to the police.

Final paragraph refers to advising our client that it is now in a position to issue proceedings against you. Should I be worried?

No need to be concerned.
As you noted they use vague legalese jargon and threats to encourage payment.
Sometimes they even turn the "case" over to debt collectors, but eventually they stop.
Just stay the course!

Hi all, another addition to my set of RLP letters received (attached). As before, I hope that by posting these as I receive them as a reference guide this will help others who find themselves in a similar predicament.

As predicted by other forum users the sum demanded has fallen, from £147.50 to £103.25, 'as a way to resolve this dispute prior to the issue of court proceedings'.

Anything to be concerned about here, or is this one safe to ignore as per previously?

They must be getting desperate ... The amount they're asking for has gone down from £147.50 in post #9 to £103.25 today, that's just over £44 less

It's taken about 2mths to get them down to that reduction, at that rate they'll be giving up before the end of the year :lol: Are you still OK to just ignore them (I'd suggest you did :nod

Hi just a quick one.. what if the police were called in and been told no action would be taken? And rlp have my name wrong on the letters? Ignore them? Or suck it up and deal with them?

Letter #5 from RLP arrived a few days ago. As predicted by others a while back, they have now threatened to 'pass this matter to recovery agents who specialise in recovering payment in undisputed claims'.

Am I correct in my assumption that this will involve just receiving letters from these 'agents', & that they will be unlikely to do more than that?

As before, I do not intend to respond, or to pay anything.

The 'recovery agents' will most likely be debt collectors (who have no power to do anything other than threaten - much like RLP themselves ) ... you'll probably get a few letters from them saying they'll visit, but you have no reason to let them in if they do and can tell them to leave your property/driveway quite safely :nod:. Eventually they will return your 'debt' to RLP who'll send a few more increasingly desperate sounding letters.

You can either ignore the 'recovery agents' or write to them saying you do not acknowledge any debt to their employer (RLP) and therefore are not going to be paying anything :tinysmile_twink_t2:
