        I know.....
The bloody country has gone mad.........
Within reason, a slap or two, is the only way to teach some kids.
Now days, they just laugh at you or give you a mouthful of foul and abusive language.
Chuck them in the army for a year or two.
Teach them some discipline and respect.
        Ah, if only

            JB
Your opinion is general among the older generation problem is there is no respect in this country in this case the OP made a mistake and from the amount of posts they have put on here they regret it.
If the law does not act it is not for RLP to profit from this.
As you will notice when you venture out lack of respect and rudeness is prevalent in all generations the older and the younger in 50 years time when most of us are gone what is it going to be like?

              Hi Wales,
I doubt it will be much different in 50 years.
As a teenager (a little while ago) I recall much the same being said about the Teddy Boys, Then it was the Mods & Rockers.
Prior to that, even in Medieval times there were people bemoaning "the youth of today" and some of the Latin writers mention the problem.(if anyone is interested I'll try and find the quotes:doggieyes

I think the problem is really one of perception.
We oldies tend to overlook the amount of good work done by youths volunteering and working in the community, and concentrate too much on what we think are faults.

As you say, in all ages there are those who are rude (what? ME :tinysmile_aha_t but I think they are in the minority, we just don't notice those who are polite.
Visitors to this country , however , often comment on our overall politeness and good manners.
I think we should stop beating ourselves over self perceived "faults".

I see the rudeness more so going round with my wife who is Disabled its not perceived its true I can be ruder than anyone but I still move out of the way open doors and say thankyou.
Yesterday we had as I remember 2 staff members in a supermarket barge past us then later a girl about 10 hold doors open for us and others .

You must be mind reader, i was just about to make exactly the same points myself, sometimes we tend to be a little hypocritical, as i said earlier my grand children usually come to me when they are in trouble and are loathe to tell their mums and dads, not because I am any wiser, but their parents know that I remember what they got upto when they were kids.

Wales, you are correct mate, there is no respect, either for people or property.
I think the only things OP and her boyfriend regret is.....
                    1, Getting caught
                    2, Parents finding out
3, maybe having to fork out money

Des my old mate, I have nothing against the army
Chuck these petty thieves in at the deep end, it will either cure them or kill them.
Everyone wants what their neighbours have got, what is not theirs to take.
And the OP is no exception.
The world has gone mad, and pussy footing around with wrongdoers and thieves, is not the answer.
                    Do the crime?
Then have the guts to do the time.:tinysmile_twink_t2:

Younger generation don't realise we lived through the rebel thing did the same stupid things they are not the first to do these things but above all we always respected others maybe in our own way but we did,
I have seen people high on grugs die on drugs get drunk and fight but never got into that its a lesson in life we all make mistakes but we all should learn by them.

                        Absolutely Wales.
But the only way we learned, was the bloody hard way.
I remember calling a policeman 'baldy', and getting a good solid Kick up the backside for my troubles.
It cured me..... I never called another 'copper' baldy.
Today, mum & dad would be down the solicitors putting in a compensation claim, because their little darling had been assaulted.
Yeah, we were rebels but we never went crying to mum every time things went arse upwards.
In fact, if I run to my mum every time I got into trouble.
Despite being only five foot tall, she would give me a bloody good walloping, for getting into trouble in the first place.

Look at the facts in the OP's case.
She came to this country as a visitor.
She abused the visit by stealing.
She got caught and she should face the music, instead of whinging on LB about her parents finding out, and asking us all to bail her out.
She is 16 going on 17, not exactly a kiddie anymore.

Maybe I'm just a miserable old git..........

                              Des, you quoted.

We oldies tend to overlook the amount of good work done by youths volunteering and working in the community.

Actually, it's not voluntary... It's called Community Service, and it's a magistrate that dishes it out:juge:

                                NO, I meant voluntary volunteering.
You might not get them in North London, but here in West Wales we have them in Wild life parks, in a local castle which is undergoing archaeological investigation, helping teach sailing.
                                The list is endless.
                                http://www.gwirfoddolicymru.net/young-volunteerscy/
I think you do the youth of today no favours by concentrating on a minority who upset you.

I also think we are now well off topic and if we want to continue this discussion we should transfer to the Lamp Post.
