Received a civil recovery claim letter from dwf on behalf of Sainsburys, do I need to pay this?

Ignore it. Read the many posts about DWF and similar companies like RLP on the Civil Loss Recovery forum on here. I note that Sainsbury's value of goods lost was zero.

They are trying to make you contribute to Sainsbury's administrative costs of dealing with the incident but they aren't entitled to recover that from you.

I only know what is posted on the threads on here and no-one has ever come back and reported that DWF (or any other "civil recovery company") has actually started legal court action. Lots of threats to take action then it goes quiet.

received 3rd letter now, saying fee may increase due to court costs, ccj maybe entered against you, may effect your credit rating, bailiff may attend house and we may seek court order to take money from employer. Is advice still to ignore? Thanks

Notice how often they say "may" in that letter.

You 'may' win the lottery this week as well.

But that's no more likely to happen than any of the things they say 'may' happen to you. They are just trying to frighten you. Continue to ignore them. It's just a list of standard small claims court procedures.

None of those things could happen unless (1) they took you to court AND (2) they won and the judge issued a CCJ against you AND (3) you failed to pay the CCJ within 30 days. And we have not heard of DWF actually bringing a court claim, let alone winning one.

It may be worth getting some more information before deciding whether to pay. A civil recovery letter is a legal demand, but receiving one does not automatically mean that the amount claimed is correct or that you should immediately accept liability.

Check what the letter says the claim is for, whether any evidence has been provided, and what deadline they have given you to respond. Keeping copies of all correspondence is also important.

If you are unsure about your position, it may be worth getting advice before making any payment or admitting anything.

Thanks, the original letter is in the at the top of this post. No evidence has come with the letter. It contains very little information.
