  • Sky takeover of O2 and Be Unlimited

    Hi ,

You may have heard that Sky took over the broadband customer base of O2 and Be Unlimited .

I received a letter dated 27.03.14 which stated Sky would be switching my connection to them on 09.04.14 and my monthly subscription would be £12.50 less any discounts I was due .

On 01.04.14 Be Unlimited took my usual monthly subscription of £18.26 .

On 09.04.14 I turned on my router and found I'd been switched over .

On 19.04.14 I found an email in my inbox (dated 18.04.14 22:52) from Sky stating that I would be paying £12.50 less £2.50 discount PLUS £2.50 for not using their phoneline and £5.00 for NOT having Sky TV . Plus they would charge me 50p for paying by credit card . Total £18.00 a month not the £12.50 quoted .

Note they told me about these extra costs 9 days after the switchover so the 7 day cooling off period wouldn't apply (even though I hadn't agreed a contract with them at all) .

Their invoice was for a month in advance to 01.06.14 plus they were also charging me pro-rata for the month of April which I had already paid to Be Unlimited on 01.04.14 .

I immediatly asked for my MAC code .

I then logged into the Sky web portal and found that they had my credit card details which I had never given them or given Be Unlimited permission to give out . These details were then changed to another credit card which was expiring on 30.04.14 to stop payment .

I received a call on 21.04.14 telling me the MAC code would be emailed in 2 days . Nothing was received . I emailed on 24.04.14 . No reply . I phoned 25.04.14 and got my MAC code which I gave to my new Isp .

I emailed Sky telling them as I had paid up to and including 01.05.14 I would after that date turn off my router so I would not be liable to Sky for the June payment .

I received a phone call next day when I told them I wasn't double paying etc . I was told it was up to me to get the refund from Be Unlimited who as far as I know may already have passed the payment to Sky . I don't know as I wasn't involved in any of the process at all .

I migrated to the new Isp on 02.05.14 .

Now Sky have sent me a direct debit mandate to pay them which I won't be returning .

Any idea what I can do as I know they will start phoning etc to get the money I don't believe I owe them .

    Thanks in advance .

Edited to say Be Unlimited had previously told me about the transfer to Sky.

Re: Sky takeover of O2 and Be Unlimited

Turns out that Be Unlimited (co.no. 05262862) were renamed SKY HOME COMMUNICATIONS LIMITED back in April 2013 and Sky have been masquerading as Be Unlimited ever since .

So Sky took my money on 01.04.14 by pretending to be Be Unlimited and then purposefully were trying to take it again (pro-rata) on 02.05.14 .

Apologies for having missed your first post.

Did you see Watchdog last night ? (I'll find the video)

      http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...s-33-episode-1

Watch from 36 minutes in to about 38.5 mins. (It's not a huge segment) They don't help a lot but nice to know it's not just you.

Re: Sky takeover of O2 and Be Unlimited

Thanks for the replies and the link to the BBC (I don't have a TV) .

But from a legal aspect (ta daaaaa :-) ) , is this not fraud or attempting to gain money by deception ?

If you re-read my opening message , Sky have tried to get paid twice even though it now appears they could have done a inter-company pro-rate transfer for the initial payment made 01.04.14 . In fact they may have and "may" just be trying to ??????? .

Many have paid twice , by Sky Home Communications taking the money disguised as Be Un Limited AND then taking the pro-rata money as another Sky company (I don't know which as I didn't pay) .

Thanks in advance as I know what Sky will try to attempt .
