  • Debenhams pulling a fast one on my order

    Morning all,

Hoping to find out if any options maybe available to me on this one

Ordered 2 items online with Debenhams on the 25th Nov, get told 4 working day delivery. 3 days later money is out of my account, and tracking notes show
    "Dispatched"

Its now the 5th Dec, still no items received, so log on to check tracking, it shows the 1 item as "received" yesterday at 6pm, and the other item still showing dispatched.

So I call Debenhams to ask whats going on, the guy says the 1 item (bath robe) was "Received" back to Debenhams. He reads his notes about the courier (hermes), and tells me this:

""""" Items were dispatched on the 26th Nov, the courier has reported the parcel as damaged (a bath robe and coffee grinder!) at the Hub or in Transit, so they return the items to Debenhams."""""

So I said to the guy, from dispatch to your couriers before hitting my door, any problems that arise are nothing to do with me, I would just like the order I placed delivered ASAP.
Customer services guy then says, we can re-order the goods, but the robe has gone up £25 in price, so if you want it, you have to pay extra ??????????????

I said the item I ordered was delivered back to you, so how about just send that same item again ? He could see stock level is not an issue, he just said his computer wont allow him to deliver my goods unless I pay more money ?
I'm far from impressed, but more importantly, I ordered 2 items, paid money, items dispatched (contract formed ?) and still don't have what I ordered, and wont get unless I pay more money!

I have the email address for those in Headoffice for complaints, just wondering how this works ?
ie: do I just accept that Debenhams are rubbish at customer services and don't shop there again!
Or can I ask they deliver the goods I ordered on said date at said price, and fulfil the contract as items were dispatched......

    cheers all

You could try phoning back to see if you get another customer services guy that knows what he is talking about lol

you never know a different person on the phone could make a difference

if you get the same person again and the same story, then tell him you want to spk to his manager

    your right

at point of sale the contract was made and thus far they have NOT held up their part of the contract and it makes NO difference to your contract if they have put prices up AFTER you made your purchase

    BUT

be prepared that if they get awkward they could just say they will give you your money back

Re: Debenhams pulling a fast one on my order

That's what the guy said on the phone, they will refund me in 20 days, etc.....
      I don't want a refund, I want my goods!!!

However, I did a google search, lots of people in same position. Purchased items online when sales were on, get told same stories, and if wanting the items ordered, either to pay more, or accept a refund....

Its shocking that a company is allowed to do this to a consumer, I could understand if the items were never dispatched, but as they claim the items "were dispatched", then I assumed the obligation is there to deliver those goods.

If they offer to deliver the goods in time for Christmas, always remember to ask which Christmas.

they are not offering to deliver the goods...
they are saying they are happy to mislead customers into buying goods, claiming they have been dispatched, and after so many days making up a BS story that the goods were returned to them, and if you want the goods still, you have to pay the current price.....

Re: Debenhams pulling a fast one on my order

I did some reading yesterday, and in a nutshell, I read something like this:

It is considered a criminal offense for a business to mislead customers by promoting goods in a sale price, and then pulling a fast one, only to restock and quote product at full price.
Guess its similar to the holiday shops from years ago promoting cheap holidays in the window and within 1 second of the advert appearing, those holidays were sold out but the holidays at twice the price were always available (misleading).

Sooooooooooooo... As Debenhams don't hear customers via phone or email (meaning they cant be arsed!), I took to social media and hit there facebook site... didn't take long for a reponse to come through asking for details....

So I facebook messaged Debenhams, explained not received order, explained the practise felt like I was mislead into a situation where stock levels are not an issue, and bish bash bosh, I get a ref to say reorder and they will honour the sale price... Shame they couldn't do that the first time without there embarrassment on FB!

Ended up with a few more hoohahs, now gotta fight to get my original payment back!!
                  Case closed

*** just looked at your link, good info on there, and yeah, looks like I was right about the misleading stuff! cool ! ***
