  • parking ticket issued due to electronic permit expiring. Any adcive please

    Good afternoon all,

I wonder if you could give a little advice please.

My partner has a parking permit...or so we thought. As our council no longer issue paper permits, we usually receive a letter 2 weeks before it expires.

He has just gone to the car and he has been issued parking ticket!

We have just checked online and the permit ran out 10/10 but we have received no letter or notice as we usually do.

When he contacted them, the woman on the phone told him, "well I'm sorry, but it's really up to you to make sure it hasn't expired"

Is this true? If that's the case then why send notice on previous occasions?

Without the paper permit normally in the car window it's difficult to keep track!

He will pay this, but I wondered if there was anything we could do?

    All advice greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Unfortunately I think you will find them correct as you should ensure it is up to date. Makes no difference what they have done previously as they will say it was done as a favour. The cynic in me says they have done it on purpose to gain "extra revenue" from the motorist. If it is falling on deaf ears why not involve your local Councillor(s).

Thanks for your reply, the cinic in me believes the same!

Without the paper permit as we used to have in the car it's all very easy to forget, after life is busy right, school runs, work, the usual. It's something you could really do with getting a reminder for.

Thanks again, I think contacting the council is a good step, though again, nothing will be done.

I'm sure there'll be Terms and Conditions regulating the electronic parking permits. It might be worth having a read of them. They may well be found on the Council website if you have not got a copy yourselves.
