Hubby is buying me Zumba and I am enrolling on a Salsa course (The dance chas.. not the dip) plus swimming, so I will be the incredible shrinking woman!!

Out of sheer proffessional interest I will have a word with a contact in Isupport on tuesday about this case and see what she says.

      Re: Apple iPhone issue

Many years ago, I had a similar contretemps with the (then) manager of my local Halfords.

A car part, which was faulty.

He insisted, in front of a shopful of customers, that he had no liability, & I had to deal directly with the manufacturer.

I told him he was mistaken.

At that point, one of the customers approached us, handed us both a business card, turned to me & said "If you get any problems, give me a ring".

He was a solicitor; the manager coughed up, in both senses!

              Re: Apple iPhone issue

An iPhone is an iPhone whether bought in the UK or Canada. If it has an inherent fault, Apple should replace it. They're global, so the law about they're phone being fit for purpose should be. It's bugger all use if it doesn't work cos they didn't make it properly. :beagle:

may i just point out.. it all depends on what was found on the phone.

if for example the OP downloaded an ap in good faith and it messed with the phone, Apple are not to blame.. and I'm not suggesting that the OP did this.. just playing devils advocate here.

Also, it depends on when the phone was bought.
The iphone 4s was launched in 2011, so if it is over 2 years old...

2 years old? Surely Apple would expect a phone to last for more than two years. They are highly sophisticated pieces of electronic kit costing hundreds of pounds. I'd not be happy if mine broke after two years.

tbh Labman, the normal term of a contract on a mobile phone is 24 months, and operators only offer a 18 month warranty on the phone... so I would say 24 months is about right for needing a new phone...

EDIT: also see the screenshot of the EU regs, uk 2 years.

In that case they are massively over-priced. Two years for a piece of kit which would have cost what when it first came out? About £350 - £400? That means you're paying nearly £17 per month just to own it, before you even start using it. That's crazy.

I paid £200 for mine when it became 'old' technology.

                        Labman,
when I first started working in the industry the phone to have was a Nokia Sirrocco, it cos (sit down love.. and take the red pills) £650 for the handset on a £60 a month tariff... and the magic reason it was so wanted..

                        NOTHING.

It was a sh1tty phone, it had no internet, no touchscreen, it was a candybar phone, no slide, had a 1 mp camera if I remember rightly.. and people bought it!!

when you think that an iPhone is a mini computer, music player and personal organiser in your pocket.. its actually quite cheap!

                          Re: Apple iPhone issue

Yes, but I'd still expect it to last more than 2 years. I do actually use most of the features on my phone, but there's a lot to be said for having a £10 handset that you charge once a week - it makes and receives calls, sends and receives texts and might have a radio. Ideal for most people who are conned into buying something they don't need.

My first mobile was literally like a car battery slung round your neck with a receiver on top. Something like this

The way I read the screenshot, although Apple's own warranty is 2 years, UK law covers you for 6 years, especially for a (well-known) fault in manufacture.
