  • question for bluebottle

    Good evening sir

From looking at your posts, it appears you were a serving police officer. From what i have noticed you took a pride in your position of trust.

Can you tell me please where their is a dedicated museum which marks the conception of the police, to the police force we have today

What i am researching is the "old police" from 1750 to 1850 with reference to Parish Cnstables, Amateur constables, and Night Watch Amateurs

Then we move onto the "new police" from 1829-1870 with peel.

The thing is, i am not looking at the usual tourist explanation, this is an in depth research approach based on fact, not the normal romanticist approach

Any official outlets you can recommend will be a great help

    Thank you

If you have the right job or academic contacts, you could try for a viewing of the 'Black Museum'.

There are two Black Museums that the Metropolitan Police Service maintain, one at New Scotland Yard, in Victoria, Central London, and the other is at The Peel Centre, Hendon, in North West London. I would either write to or email the MPS's Press Office, in the first instance. You can also contact individual chief constables about the history of their police forces. One of the police forces I served with, the Ministry of Defence Police, has quite an interesting history. With that force, it might be an idea to write to Steve Love, QPM, who is the chief constable. Best of luck with your project.
