Re: holiday in the USA questions

well then, i picked up my passport in person after making an appointment at the identity and passport office in eccleston square, by victoria station, london SW1.

It cost me £129.00 and £35.00 train fare for the privilege. but i had to do it as i only had 2 months left on my passport and you need at least six months to visit the USA

The passport office is huge and covers three buildings. The worst part was hanging around london for four hours to collect your passport

The passport itself has the new bio metric chip on the cover and has two impressions of your photograph (digital images)

now i have my passport i need to book my flight and do my ESTA travel document for uncle sam

can anybody when quiet look for a cheap return flight to either las vegas or san francisco. The airports do not matter as such as i will be doing the car hire routine. i am looking at least a months stay WITH A FLIGHT DEPARTURE ON THE 3/09/2012

(PLUS-MINUS A FEW DAYS IF NEEDS MUST)

it is just the flight i am looking at, nothing else

            many thanks

Re: holiday in the USA questions

anybody know how much security deposit gets authorised on your card when you book

                        1/ a car
                        2/ hotel

and after you return the vehicle, leave the hotel, you will have the avaliable funds credited back to the card

is it instant or do you have to delay a few days for the UK banks to catch up

Re: holiday in the USA questions

Last time I was out there it was very much like the hotels here do, basically they take a swipe of your card so they have the details if they need to take monies, but don't take the money unless needed if that makes sense.

Re: holiday in the USA questions

yep, i understand that but how long does it take for the hire company to take off the block on your card so you then have avaliable funds instead of the pre-authorised amount

does it take time for your own bank to catch up and release the pre authorised amount back to avaliable credit

                            if that makes sense

                                Hey hun,

What happens with an authorisation payment is, lets use $50 a night as an example, well..
if you stay 1 night, they will authorise say $90 for meals, phone calls etc, then as you check out they will calculate the amount you have actually used (say $55) and use the authorisation code they have already got, change the amount and charge your card that day, funds normally leave the account within 48hours.

With car rental its more or less the same, they check for no damage to the car etc, and charge you the day of return of the car, after inspecting it.

Used to be a hotel receptionist so I've done this a few times myself.
