  • Asda Online

I watched BBC Watchdog last night and was astonished to hear that Asda can and do increase the price of items after you have ordered them.

Surely the advertised price at the point of sale must be accurate. It certainly doesn't say much for Asda's much heralded ''Price Guarantee'' if they can't actually guarantee the price you'll pay when you buy something.

BBC - Watchdog: Summer supermarket ploys

We heard from Caroline Ellams from Shropshire, who as a busy mum of twins finds it quicker and easier to do her weekly shop online. She had been shocked to discover that when her shopping was delivered, the price she had been charged for several items was considerably more than the price she had seen them at online. One of the items was Haagen Dazs Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream, Caroline told us: 'These were on their website and also on the confirmation email at £2.00 each and when I checked on the receipt they'd gone up to £3.50. I was quite surprised that I'd inadvertently spent £7.00 on ice cream, had I have known they were going to be that price I would have gone for something else instead'. On contacting ASDA, Caroline was told that their prices can change between ordering and delivery, as stated in their online Terms and Conditions.

Asda told us"We're sorry that Ms Ellams found our website a little confusing. We try to ensure our low prices are always clear and straightforward. The Asda Price Guarantee also means our customers can compare the cost of their shopping each time they shop vs our major competitors to ensure we are always offering the best value".

you also need to check there offers in store as it is not always the case for instance bacon 3 for a fiver but the separate price was £1.47
If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.

      From their T&C's
      Nice little get out clause.
      Price

3.1 Prices on the website are the prices charged in store on that day and as the store prices change, We update the website overnight. They are therefore a guide only. There may be some slight variations by the time We are due to Deliver Your order. When You shop on the Website You will pay the same price (excluding Our online only promotions) that You would pay if You came to Our Store to do Your shopping on the day of Delivery.

Tesco are good - they give dates for the offers and the price on your online order is always with the offers taken into account - so if theres an offer on today for BOGOFF icecream but the promotion ends before Monday when they deliver, my basket has a warning that the offer ends and the price is calculated without the offer.

Anyway, you can reject ANY item when its delivered and its credited straight away. And if somethings missing, same thing.

I think its brilliant myself, but I much much prefer tesco over asda - the websites easier and the drivers nicer - though I havent used it for a while.

Also, if Tesco substitute an item with a more expensive item, you only pay the price of the item you ordered.(excludes link-save & multi-buy offers)

Don't talk to me about Asda; I ended up getting TWO entirely free home deliveries from them, not just free *delivery* but all the groceries free too, so you can imagine how badly they f***d up - and repeatedly.

I would never shop on-line with them again; but the few remaining *free* Asda branded items in my cupboards still give me a wry smile when I use them, remembering how the 'force of my personality' won the day. And also I remember the poor sod at Asda who was told from on high he must' sort it out before he went home', and how he finally spluttered I could have full refunds so he could go

I think that all the stores who provide this home delivery service do their best to be as fair as possible but they all have to stick to this policy of charging the price current on the date of delivery. So far I have only used Sainsbury's for this purpose and have found that if you book your delivery before you start shopping, then the prices displayed are the prices which will apply on the day of delivery. On the other hand, if you don't bother to book your delivery date first, you shop at current prices, but can then ring them up using their 0800 number and they will tell you the latest you can book a delivery to ensure that the displayed prices will remain correct. They will sometimes also advise you to delay the delivery for a day or two as new offers are due to be applied which will outweigh any price increases which may occurr!

                P.P.

Yep I prefer the 'old fashioned' way, nothing better than picking your own groceries out.

I couldn't agree more, but when you are disabled and your wife is temporarily immobilised due to a foot operation the service is very useful indeed!
