    Re: Tesco shoplifting

They can't just hand out a criminal record, it has to go through the court process. I know it's difficult but just stop worrying.

Genuinely thanks for the support on here! Would it be worth calling tesco or my local police station to ask if the matter will be going any further?

That’s the problem, I can’t put it out of my mind and am thinking that calling my local police station may put my mind at ease? I can’t stop panicking each day the post arrives

You will not hear from the police.

You MIGHT hear from RLP. They have no powers at all, can't give you a criminal record, all they can do is ask you for something like £132. It's not a fine. It's a speculative invoice which you can ignore ( you've read other threads so know this ) or you can pay to ease your concience.

            Remember what you did...
In short, a loss Provention Officer has seen me put a number of items in a bag (self scan) and not declare them at the checkout. I explained - honestly - that I’d tried to scan them (20 of the same item reduced to 40p) but the scanner had said they couldn’t be scanned so put them aside and I’d forgotten all about them. He insisted he hadn’t seen this and when I asked him to check the cctv he said he didn’t think it would catch it.
They went through my trolley and to my horror also found a bunch of bananas I’d genuinely forgotten to get back out at checkout, as well as two packs of smoked salmon stuck together where I’d innocently only scanned 1. In total about £12-13.
Not crime of the century. A couple of cock ups because their self scan process is rubbish.

Do not give it another thought. Honestly.

The police have far better things to be doing

              Re: Tesco shoplifting

Are there any precedents of Tesco not calling the police at the time but then passing details to the police at a later date?

None. Well, none I have ever seen across the forums.
