Wifes medical problem

Hi all - I have posted before concerning myself but now lm asking for my wife.
She's been having a lot of medical problems.
Thing is yesterday during a routine trip to the docs the doc thinks she may have chronic emphysema as she coughs every day bringing up phlem most times.
She's out of breath just walking 20 yards don't help as we live on a hill.
Question is can she claim for anything she's 61 years old and unable to work.
Any info appreciated
At present l am claiming for her as she has no income .

what are you claiming?? are you on benefits/low income?? Would treatment for your wife be on the NHS? Are you asking if she cen cleim compensation (and if so who from)??

Yes lm claiming income related ESA as a couple as lm classed disabled get 347 a fortnight for both of us.
It's her smoking that has caused this been along time too.
Just so upsetting her life seems to be on a downward spiral the last couple of years.
Just wanted to know if shes diagnosed would it be possible to claim for herself some benefit.

I too have a disabled wife. It might be worth looking at Personal Independence payment and carers allowance. Check that you are entitled to free prescriptions and apply. Also don't get caught by the expiry of the free concession. Look at disabled persons bus pass and rail cards. If you have an welfare rights group nearby talk to them. CAB might also be able to help.

Your wife may well be assessed for Personal Independence Allowance if she has a proven record of mobility problems and expected to do so in the future, Here is a link to describe eligibility.

I would go to cab and get them to help you fill it in, if you are on income related benefits yourself then you may be entitled to more than you think.

Both are good guides and PIPs is not about the condition but how the condition affects your daily life.
I mentioned going to CAB because with income related benefits they tend to snowball and the CAB advisor will be able to take all personal details and tell you what you will get if PIPs is awarded.
Good Luck and the process is not as bad as you may have heard, I think things are getting better thnakfully x
