Computers stop winter fuel payments
More than 1,000 people over the age of 60 are still waiting for their winter fuel payments, two months after they should have been paid.
The tax-free £200 payment should have arrived before Christmas, but a computer error means 1,128 people have not yet received theirs, the Department for Work and Pensions said.
A spokesman for the department told BBC Radio 4's Money Box programme that the computer system which handled payments had lost the records and staff were having to try to find the original paper records so they can be reloaded.
A spokesman for the Department of Work and Pensions told the programme: "We have discovered that 92 customers who contacted the department regarding non-payment of a winter fuel payment have been affected by a computer software problem.
"We have identified a small number of cases that may have been affected in the same way. The total number of cases is 1,128.
"We are currently processing these cases and expect to have paid them by the 24 February."
