I could list loads in our village Inca. They'll 'hobble' -ie- work cash in hand while claiming benefits, but are otherwise unfit to work. I've given up reporting them as nothing is ever done. There is also, of course, the danger of being found out as the one who reports them which is not to be underestimated.

I know ATOS have,on the whole,been atrocious.....BUT if at least a few 'don't work,won't work' brigade get hoiked off benefits I would be happy.
There are people out there sponging off they system under the umbrella of depression,Anxiety,social phobias and all other easy to fake,hard to disprove 'illnesses' that prevent them from working but doesn't prevent them leading normal lives...I can't speak for anyone else but my sex drive divebombed when depression kicked in so how they all manage to procreate makes me think I am the weird one !!
I'm not saying this applies to OP or to every person who has these issues but it would be so beneficial to sort the wheat from the chaff...Shame the govt.picked Muppets to do the assessments.

The biggest part of the problem, Inca, is that the last Tory government put millions of perfectly fit and healthy unemployed people on Incapacity Benefit so that they could fiddle the unemployment figures. New Labour did exactly the same thing. I often find myself shouting angrily at the tv screen when that arrogant, out-of-touch moron, IDS, appears, spouting 100% garbage about the long-term sick and disabled. Until my nervous system was trashed and I ended up with FMS, apart from my time in the police force, I worked with the elderly and disabled and have built up quite a lot of knowledge and experience in the process. The Tories always demonise those who can least fight back to blame for society's ills and misfortune. Targeting those with chronic illness and disabilities shows to what depths the Tories will descend in their desperation to divert the public's attention away from the reality that society's ills and misfortune is due to the bungling, corruption and incompetence of themselves, their benefactors and allies.

In a lot of cases, Wales, employers do not understand the implications of employing people with certain medical conditions and, in some cases, their Employer's Liability Insurance does not cover them. Some JCP Claimant Advisors really do need a good hard kick up the backside and a very stark lesson in the consequences of their reckless and thoughtless actions.

Trouble is, Cloggy, people are put in the Work-Related Activities Group (WRAG) when they should really be put in the Support Group. The group of claimants who get discriminated against in this matter the most are those with conditions like Hypermobility Syndrome (HMS), Fibromyalgia (FMS) and a number of other variable conditions.

My wife received the DWP letter today stating shes going onto the new benefit after the atos assessment same money etc just another name for her benefit.Nowhere in the letter does the word ATOS appear strange that proves that if your genuine you have nothing to fear from the exam

Hi Wales, that sounds good news.
Presumably "Employment and Support Allowance" is the new benefit mentioned.
Have they said if your wife will be given the extra support needed to look for work, or have they confirmed she will not be expected to look for work?

ATOS is only part of the problem. The other part of the problem is DWP Decision Makers who are not all that well educated, think its their money and can be very prejudiced against claimants, which flies in the face of their conditions of employment as a Civil Servant, in that they must treat those they have dealings with without fear or favour, malice or ill-will. Unfortunately, there will always be those Civil Servants who feel that rules are there to be bent, broken or ignored.

A more worrying trend that is emerging is that of Claimant Advisors in JCP offices telling claimants to not mention their age, or to falsify it, and not to mention any health conditions on job applications. Not only is this potentially Fraud by False Misrepresentation (Section 2, Fraud Act 2006) or Fraud by Failing to Disclose Information (Section 3, Fraud Act 2006), it is also an indictable offence to incite another to commit an indictable offence. Furthermore, if a prospective employer is unaware of a prospective employee's health condition, this can potentially invalidate the employer's Employer's Liability Insurance. It is a criminal offence for an employer to employ persons without there being in force a valid Certificate of Employer's Liability Insurance. I believe the penalty for this offence is a fine of around £70,000 maximum.

Not only do ATOS need kicking into the long grass, so do corrupt Civil Servants working for DWP.

Bloody Hell,,I've had more medicals..MOT's..tests and assessments than most folk have in a lifetime! I've only been written off as knackered cos I'm at the 'end stages' of my illness (I don't mean kick the bucket end stage,I mean things aint gonna get better,,although with a bit of luck they may stagnate where they are
