Re: ***URGENT**** False accusation re housing benefits.

Whilst I would not want to report anyone for benefit fraud, I do think that in a way it is our moral duty to do so, remember those people are actually stealing the benefits from the people who genuinely need them. So I'd be tempted to think twice as god forbid one day I or my hubby have to claim and cannot get help because the money has run out etc.

I've reported people and have no problem doing so. If I saw someone nicking something from a shop I'd report them. It's only the same, but from a large public purse.

          UPDATE:

BIL's interview has been postponed again, and his work Union are helping him with court fees. He has done an SD to say he never lived with D until 26/10/2012, and the legal aide requested all evidence of his residence. All they had was that he had letters sent to D's house and he arrived on Fridays and left either the next day or later on that night.

He has never paid to have the mail kept safe, yes he has bought D and the kids gifts, the occasional take out and when money has been very tight, he paid for a weeks shop.. but you do that for your friends!

              This is actually true.

Numberwise, most fraudulent claims are the 'men and women in the street'. However, in terms of value, organised gangs are responsible for the greatest loss.

It's also true that a surprising number of well-off people also commit fraud. Having talked to a few, what comes across is their monumental arrogance. They see themselves as a privileged class that should be allowed to do as they please.

That is EXACTLY my experience, Enquirer. When I was a CID officer, I was surprised at the unbelievable arrogance of the wealthy, when caught, who believed it wasn't a crime to steal, defraud, etc., but it was a crime to get caught. A lot of judges took a dim view of such arrogance. One defendant, when sentenced, shrugged their shoulders and didn't seem to be taking matters seriously, so the judge added a further 12 months to a three-year sentence. The air in the court then turned blue which didn't go down well.
Life is a journey on which we all travel, sometimes together, but never alone.

I hope this isn't worrying you Puff - this is talking about serious, long term fraud. It is just an interesting tangent to your original post. Do you feel happy with that now?

                    yeh fine hun <3

As you say its an interesting and very appropraite tangent to my thread, and its not worrying me as I don't think that the council are believing the accustations too much, as they keep postponing BILs interview.

Literally all the evidence they have is the mail which neither party have denied, both openly admitted he spent the occasional night (more out of respect for my 3 nieces feelings) and had the occasional shower at hers but nothing more than say.. a night a month and maybe 2 showers. He admitted paying for her shopping, as he says would you let the woman you love starve? but again, Im not living there and I have paid for her shopping a few times, shes my sister!

The Union rep says, they have nothing and anything dated from 25th oct is surpluss to requirements as they announced their engagement and the claim was stopped 27th.
