What they do not seem to have done, however, is to have told the Indolent Commissioner's Office of their current address or obtained authorisation from the Ministry of Injustice.

Re: Con - please do not do this!

Spoke to CAB Press Office, they are very unimpressed that checkmybenefits.co.uk is claiming any link to them. They are looking into it and will contact me in due course to advise on their response.

Have spoken to MOJ and am following up with an email to Mike Wrankmore (in EXC's absence) as the MOJ staff I spoke to today were unsure whether this activity is regulated or not.

The Checkmybenefits.co.uk website is still down, as is their Twitter feed. The CAB were delighted we had at least achieved that!
"Although scalar fields are Lorentz scalars, they may transform nontrivially under other symmetries, such as flavour or isospin. For example, the pion is invariant under the restricted Lorentz group, but is an isospin triplet (meaning it transforms like a three component vector under the SU(2) isospin symmetry). Furthermore, it picks up a negative phase under parity inversion, so it transforms nontrivially under the full Lorentz group; such particles are called pseudoscalar rather than scalar. Most mesons are pseudoscalar particles." (finally explained to a captivated Celestine by Professor Brian Cox on Wednesday 27th June 2012 )

Is the fact one was set up by ex CAB staff certain or just a possibility? CAB certainly don't like claims of being linked to things outside their own organisation and protect their own brand exceedingly vigorously. I suspect something like this would give them apoplexy.

When I googled checkmybenefits.co.uk, they had posted on some twitter, forums and advice sites about their service. In these statements which appear on the web they claim they are established BECAUSE funding was cut to CAB and they want to carry on doing 'something they love', albeit charging for their service.

Link to Contacts I spoke to at CAB:

If CAB is a registered trademark or servicemark under the Copyright, Designs & Patents Act 1988, I can understand CAB being defensive of their brand. It is a criminal offence and a civil tort to use a registered trademark or servicemark without the authority of the registered owner/user.

                  Subject: Thread on your website
                  Good Evening,

I have noticed I am now on a thread on your site regarding checkmybenefits.co.uk

We do have a team ready for business and we did think the idea up after our funding was cut at various non for profit organisations. Saying that, the site was put up too soon and plugged on a number of websites by someone and it should not have been. The terms and conditions were not ready and the fee too high. We do not have any links with the CAB and do not claim to, and any inference that we do is purely accidental and co-incidental. We apologise if anyone thinks this was the case.

That being said, we had a poor response to the website being put up anyway. We have not done any business at all as of yet, and as soon as we received negative feedback we took the site down. The site will not be going back up, and we do not intend to pursue this business.

Apologies to anyone and everyone and I hope you can see the genuine mistake in this.

                  Thanks.

Just to update you all overnight.

I replied to the above email and received two responses from Daniel XXXX. I am now removing his personal details from our website as I am now satisfied that he has learnt a very painful lesson from this experience.

I would now like us to focus ALL attention on www.mybenefitschecker.co.uk

In the meantime I'll ask someone at OFT who this type of outfit should be regulated by.

Well done for getting the first lot closed down though TBH the business model is lousy. I'm convinced that my 10 year old niece could come up with a more viable scam than effort. The problem is that as with PPI CMCs, once one pops up there will be others that follow.
