Re: Con - please do not do this! www.checkmybenefits.co.uk

I also wonder how long it will be before the phone calls start on the subject, they will be waiting till the crunch from the Governments cut backs kick in then Bobs yer uncle loads of people will be seeking to get their benefits back.

Isn't it sad that we can see this coming, but the powers that be appear to not be able to. It must surely mean they either cannot or will not do anything about it. How they can keep turning a blind eye to these shoddy practices is beyond me and totally immoral.

I agree Enaid, the cold calls will most certainly start after all they have a bank of telephone numbers when they tried selling mis-sold PPI or writing off your credit card debt etc?

This is another area we will most certainly have to keep our Legal Beagle eyes on

Does anyone know if this particular area you have to have a MOJ authorisation and are they classed as a CMC?

Had a quick look for these companies this morning will do more later, haven,t seen any sign of authorisation but have not dug too deep.
Maybe a note to yourself and EXC to have a word when you visit MOJ see what the crack is with this.

I guess the elderly will once again be an easy target too, as they are the ones who are most likely entitled to benefits and are not claiming.

I don't think they fall under the remit of the MoJ?

I've just run a check on the Ministry of Justice website and neither Daniel XXXX or mybenefitschecker.co.uk are registered. Unless other LBs have any objections, I'm going to shop this parasite to the MoJ and DWP.

Well Nibbler I believe someone should be monitoring/regulating them.

Also if the Title of this thread started 'www.checkmybenefits.co.uk is this a CON' we would be noticed on first page of Google and would attract people who may have bought into this service and they could tell us how they were scammed or might stop people stupidly signing up.

BB, we are not sure at the moment if they are or even if the should be covered by a MOJ authorisation, so maybe make some delicate enquiries.

Re: Con - please do not do this! www.checkmybenefits.co.uk

                  Just for clarity:

There are two separate companies being discussed here:

Checkmybenefits.co.uk (apparently set up by ex CAB staff) (40%fee)

                  and

Benefit Help | MybenefitsChecker (Crown Buildings Keighly) (50% fee)

The second one emanates from an address that is a hornets nest of questionable behaviour. We need to keep a close eye on both.
"Although scalar fields are Lorentz scalars, they may transform nontrivially under other symmetries, such as flavour or isospin. For example, the pion is invariant under the restricted Lorentz group, but is an isospin triplet (meaning it transforms like a three component vector under the SU(2) isospin symmetry). Furthermore, it picks up a negative phase under parity inversion, so it transforms nontrivially under the full Lorentz group; such particles are called pseudoscalar rather than scalar. Most mesons are pseudoscalar particles." (finally explained to a captivated Celestine by Professor Brian Cox on Wednesday 27th June 2012 )

OK hun, make two separate threads starting with their names so that Google will pick them up and point people to us. Thats the best way of getting our message accross to the masses and the most guilable.

I have also made a note for our next meeting with the MOJ next month.

Perhaps an enquiry to the MOJ as to whether licenssing is required for this aactivity, as osme of our memebrs have had concerns about this 'service' ?

Oh, I agree with that 100%.

Just not sure that they fall under the MoJ that's all.

If they do, then I would love to have read that guidance note wrongly.

If not the MoJ, then I think it's certainly worth making some enquiries to the OFT, trading standards etc. Plus maybe some consumer organisations/programmes (watchdog etc).

Benefits are intended in law to provide vulnerable people with funds necessary to live. They are not intended to be a source of profit for scummy companies like this to skim off. I would be amazed if they are not breaching some legislation or regulation, or at least sailing close to the wind on some.

Just come off the phone to a very helpful young man at the DWP. They are not aware of either "company" operating in the way they are. Obviously, if anyone has any doubts about them, they should contact their local Jobcentre Plus office or local Benefit Delivery Centre who will refer the matter on to the relevant department within the DWP. If anyone has evidence of fraud by either "company", they should ring the National Benefit Fraud Hotline on 0800 854 440. In addition to CAB, there are staff at Jobcentre Plus offices who will help claimants complete their application for benefits free of charge.

Hope this is of some help.
