Hello everyone, I have a question regarding ESA. I have been off on long term sick and have been claiming ESA, my pay is about to stop and I have noticed that my ESA is deducted from my wages and my Universal Credit clam, is this correct?

    Hello Scott

As you have been in employment and have sufficient National Insurance contributions, you would have been allowed to claim contributions based ESA alongside your Universal credit. This is an additional benefit that your are claiming and is deducted pound for pound from your universal credit. A percentage of your earnings may also have been deducted if your earnings were over your work allowance.

All DWP benefits that are claimed when universal credit is in pay are deducted. This applies to Carer's allowance, ESA and also pensions in couples where one is pension age and the other working age
