  • Incapacity benefits

Hi I’m new to this forum and looking for a bit of help/advice, I’ve recently registered as a sole trader and also received a letter stating that my claim for incapacity benefit is still open, I have never received a payment for this as I believe when I asked for it in 2002 I was told I couldn’t claim. I didn’t work until 2017 when I started a part time job and had no idea this claim was open so am I entitled to the benefit for the past years that I struggled to get by or do I close the claim.

Why not contact the DHS at least you will have the correct answer to your question, and put your mind at rest.

I have Contacted the job centre and hmrc, job center say this type of benefit no longer exists and cant find the claim, hmrc say I’ve definitely had a claim as I have received national Insurance credits but I never received payments. Both very unhelpful and I’m not sure who to go too now.

May I suggest contacting your local MP that sometimes works sorry but I cannot think of any other way to go, but if I think of something I will contact you. Don't take no for an answer, as most of the staff there are not breifed correctly.
