  • PPI Reclaim for my parents

    Hi Guys,

So, my parents have just paid off a 25 year mortgage. The mortgage has PPI attached to it.

My dad is self employed and he doesn't know if the PPI would have covered him for this, in fact my mum didn't even know what PPI was until I told her. I asked what it covered as my dad has previously been laid off with work.

Firstly does this sound like a good case in anyones previous experiences? And I read on the Martin Lewis website that I should fill in the questionnaire and send to the Halifax who it was with. Or do I send the letter stickied on this page first?

    Many thanks

Hi, a lot of PPI policies provided no cover for persons that were self employed ( they would have been unable to claim), thus a clear case of mis-selling for many. Does your parents have any of the original paperwork? Have you researched Halifax?

Without doubt it's certainly worth investigating. The fact they have just paid off the mortgage they will have reference numbers that can be looked at. There is always the option of submitting a SAR request to get further information. Don't be put off if you are initially rejected or fobbed off, happens in a lot of cases. I've just fought to win PPI on loans, given alternative redress, and then ended up going to the ombudsman who found in our favour. Do as much research as you can around the cover policy, if you know when it was taken out some forums have copies of general policies from other users that can prove useful
