  • Natwest declined my ppi

I was wondering if anybody had any thoughts or experience with natwest when claiming ppi.

I had ppi on a natwest credit card back in 1998. I have just one statement from that year which states that I paid 'credit payment protection'. I don't unfortunately remember when I cancelled the credit card. I was a student at the time with no job and so I believe that having this protection would not have been any use for me.

Natwest have declined my claim saying that they do not have any records of me paying ppi. I can't understand this when I have sent them a copy of this statement which shows my name and address at the time, the credit card account number and a payment of £6.69 for credit card protection for that month.

Any ideas if what I should do next? Thanks in advance.

    Hi, welcome to LB,

A subject access request under the Data Protection Act 1998 to NW, this requires them to provide all
the " personal" data the bank holds on you.

You "request all data including but not limited to" documents relating to all/any forms of payment protection insurance.

There is a £10.00 statutory fee for a SAR and the bank has 40 days to supply the data, use the template from the forum library,

Use signed for post, address to the Data Controller at the banks head office.

NW are known for rejecting claims in this way.

Whilst an SAR may help, I don't think they have any obligation to hold information for any longer than 6 years, so 17 years may be pushing it.

From experience NatWest have been known to come up with data 20 + years old.
