  • First National Motors - PPI

I had a call from one of these claims companys last week which set my mind thinking, I bought a car in 2002 from a local dealership but have no paperwork now relating back to it, so no account numbers or anything. Also I've changed banks so unable to access details via them. I found an old bank statement from 2007 showing my monthly payment to First National Motors so I must have taken the loan out over a 5 year term. I'd like to find out if there was any PPI or similar on the account & then check out if it was mis-sold to me but not sure where to start. I've read numerous web postings about people being told they can't get copies of agreements going that far back or that the complaint would be with the car dealer & not the finance company so any help/advice/pointers would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi and welcome

It may still be worth a try.
I note you said that you found a statement from 2007, does it also show the account number?
If so then write to the dealership to ask for the finance agreement, and to provide by 12 days, enclose a £1 cheque or postal order.

Failing that, you could contact First National or do that anyway for the copy of the agreement.

    Who was the dealer?

Thanks for responding, unfortunately the old bank statement doesn't show the account or reference number, the dealer was Milburns of Ashington they were taken over & now trade under Tustain Motors.

        Hiya

Maybe worth a shot of getting hold of a credit report for £2, some will give more info than others. Google in Credit reports (UK) and you will have a choice of Equifax, Experian etc, I cannot recall which one may provide info going back even earlier than 7 years, take a look through each and see what they have to offer. (This is just a suggestion).

However, when I left my old bank, they still provided me the info by forms of requesting for all the info they still held on me and I was lucky they did go all the way back to the mid'ish 90s, if you wish to SAR your bank and require the SAR template letter please let me know, also to clarify for a SAR they have 40 days to comply and send you all the info they still hold and you enclose the one off payment of £10 cheque or postal order.

Or if you still have the old bank account number and you live locally to your old bank, call in and they may check details for you online free
