  • Old Lloyds PPI claims

    Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and despite reading as many posts as I can I'm still a little unsure of how to progress an old Lloyds PPI claim (& probably a little overwhelmed with all the info!!).

I've banked with Lloyds since 1993 and had several personal loans over the years. My most recent definitely did not have PPI, however 5 of my previous loans did have PPI and all I have are the account numbers and confirmation from my branch that they were "with insurance". I never have taken PPI over the years unless given no choice by the seller, I've always had a very secure job so it wasn't something I have ever felt was necessary. I was told by my account manager on the first of the 5 loans with PPI that she would not be able to continue with the application if I did not take PPI.

I am not quite sure how to proceed next, do I still need to send an SAR to Lloyds? Should I contact their PPI line or get more information if I can first?

Hope someone can help put me on the right track...

    Re: Old Lloyds PPI claims

    Hi and welcome

Basically you have the details you need to make your reclaim on all your ppi, with the account numbers and your reasons.
SAR's are optional, you can request for this if you wish, they have up to 40 calendar days to comply to the SAR and you provide the one payment of £10 cheque or postal order, if you banked with Lloyds you just add the banking account number and they will provide you with all they still hold of all the accounts you held with them.

It may come into use, hopefully they will still hold as much info as possible, but with my SAR I did receive data going all the way back to the mid 90's and was successful.

    http://www.lloydsbank.com/payment-pr...complaints.asp

Now on to the reclaiming, you will find on the above link the details on how to complaint/reclaim the ppi, there is a reclaim questionnaire, complete and if all your reasons were the same, write all account numbers that apply, if different reasons, then complete separate forms, however, you can still complete separate complaints forms if you wish.
Remember to keep copies of everything you send and receive in case you need to refer to them again at a later date.

They have up to 8 weeks to provide you with the final decision, in most cases they do get back before that, and you do also receive a confirmation letter as well to say they received your complaints.

I would complain in writing only and try not to do this on the phone, as its best in writing because in case you need to complain to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) later on, hopefully you will be successful though.:tinysmile_twink_t2:

The address is also included of where you send the complaint on the link x

Oh if you do want to SAR, we can post the template letter for you, let us know and good luck x

Always best to do your own calculations as well to ensure you get back your true entitlement - would not trust them to do it for you.

            Re: Old Lloyds PPI claims

I think the details I will hopefully get for an SAR will be useful especially after reading this morning that Lloyds have been using a loophole for single premium PPI. I think taking the time to obtain this info will be worthwhile. I've seen the SAR Template on the forum elsewhere so should be able to find it.

I've just received the response this morning to my SAR sent to First Plus for a 2003 loan as well and confirmed it had PPI on it. I only had this loan for a year before clearing it by remortgaging (cost me more to clear after a year than the original loan amount!!!!). The PPI premium of £7700 was added to the initial loan, considering I paid it off after a year, any ideas what can I realistically expect from First Plus on this?

              Hiya
There is no harm in giving it a go, and what you repaid back (as the ppi would have been included in the settlement) then you should get the full figure back and the relevant interest.

I cannot remember if FP were FSA regulated in 2003, but put a reclaim in with your reasons and also request for the details of the underwriter/insurer at the same time, as they would have been regulated for handling ppi etc as part of the process.
The FOS usually suggest this avenue to the underwriter/insurer in case the business you complained to were not fsa regulated at that time.

On FP website check out the details on reclaiming directly with them, they also have an email address where you can request for the underwriter/insurer details, by just giving them your name/address and policy number details.

If you can't find the SAR template let us know xx :tinysmile_twink_t2:

                Re: Old Lloyds PPI claims

                Thanks again,

Yes, having looked into it a little more it would appear First Plus were not regulated at that time. I will however go ahead with the claim and see where it leads me.
