  • PPI & Co-Op

    Dear members

Hopefully this is posted in the right area - apologies if not!

I recently lost my pip case against the CO-OP for my old gold card - oh and I had to write to them as they didn't den contact me wrt thePPI on my gold card! reasons given below:-

    My complaint was around

    1) At no point in the raising of the account did the Co_op salesman state that it was optional,

    2) I was self employed - no safety net on payments

    3) I did not fee it was adequately explained

    4) It would not cover me at all

    Response from Co-Op (paraphrasing)

No failings in the sale of the PPI

when completing the appln form I ticked the box saying I wanted PPI and signed - as I signed it I was aware that PPI was optional,

Based on the fact I was self-employed and if I became ill or sick it may have been financially difficult for me to maintain card payments. However, in the event of a successful claim the policy would have paid 5% of the monthly outstanding balance for unto 24 months and 18 months in the case of redundancy.

You stated that your wife would have covered payments if you had been unable to work (not sure he understood what I meant here) .

The policy document that was issued .... accurately describes the features, exclusions and limitations of the PPI policy. The Policy document would have confirmed that despite being self empaled you were still able to make a claim against the policy subject to meeting the criteria.

So in essence the policy was appropriate for my circumstances!!

    What a disappointment!!

In retrospect I should have said that I suffered from an existing medical condition asthma and so no pay-outs would have been made. So I'll be contesting their decision which they said was final.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Kind Regards

    Alan

    Re: PPI & Co-Op

Hi and welcome, and yes your in the correct place so no worries! :tinysmile_twink_t2:

Write back and tell them you want this reviewed as you would also like this opportunity to forward further information, as there appears to be quite some misunderstanding on how the complaints dept have investigated your complaint.

Anything you missed informing them, then put this right now and also correct their misunderstandings.

Also ask for concrete evidence of why they don't believe you were mis sold.

Was your agreement ppi part printed ink or your own?

As they said it was final, tell them you believe its only fair they give you this opportunity to forward this information which they did not understand, and you can always email a copy to the CEO as well.

      Hi

i have already contacted the CEO - I noticed that you advised someone else to do the same - so fingers crossed - letter already written with my existing medical condition on it - I'll let you know how it goes.

Strangely enough I received a First Direct PPI payment completely out of the blue unlike the Co-Op.

      Kind Regards

          Hi There

Fingers crossed wrote to CoOp and they are reviewing the case - as I had a pre-existing medical condition which started in 95 and I took my policy out in 98 it should swing things in my favour?

          Any advice anyone?

          Kind Regards
