  • PPI newbie

So glad to have found LB this afternoon.

I've been burying my head about this PPI for a while simply because it seemed so involved.

This afternoon I had (another) call from a 'helpful' company determined to reclaim my cash - for a fee.
I don't begrudge the fee in anyway if it's saving me time. However, I seem to remember being told that going through a company will save me the 'legal' costs involved...

The company this afternoon simply put me through to a PPI claim office for RBS where I had to ask about my accounts and then get the account number. It occurred to em that I could do this myself and save a further 30% +VAT. I think the caller from the reclaim company got the idea that I might just bypass him and his company and I 'mysteriously' got cut off.

So - should I just do this myself - what are the hurdles - am I likely to do better or worse through a company?

Hope you can shed light on this for me.

    Thanks

    Hi and welcome to LB

I am relieved to hear you are prepared to do this yourself, and remember on success you will receive every penny owed to you, its your money! :tinysmile_twink_t2:

Now also to confirm there is actually less paperwork and signing to do by doing this yourself, claims companies are paperwork after paperwork and are actually known to taken longer than when you do it yourself.

So let us help you "FREE"

First of all I note you said the bank where you want to reclaim from is RBS?

Do you still have the loan account number?
Bank statements where you repaid by direct debits will or should show the loan account number next to the loan monthly repayment, that is how easy you can get your account number.

Can you remember the year you taken out the loan and settlement date? not that it really matters but can be helpful.

As long as you have your reasons and the account number, we can fire away on the reclaiming.
If you've no paperwork at all, you can send a request for the Credit Agreement in writing to RBS Data Dept, and enclose a £1, request they provide this to you by 12 days.

    .........................................Now on the the reclaiming.

RBS details on how to make a ppi complaint on link below, its a ppi complaint questionnaire, once completed try getting a copy to keep back as well, as you have this to refer back to again at some point.

    http://personal.rbs.co.uk/global/ppi.html

Details of where to send the complaint are also enclosed on the above link.

I would also post by recorded delivery for your proof of posting.

If you need help with the questions, just ask us here, we will help all we can.

      Hi Onthsuperfly!

Just wanted to add that I am new to all the PPI reclaiming too. I didn't realise how easy it is. I wouldn't go with any of the claim management companies as all the information you need to claim yourself is easily found online and these lovely lot at LB will guide you through the process. If you have any questions I will always try and help from my own experience. The first step I did was to get my credit report and contact the old ones that had been paid off years before. I was under the impression that PPI was essential for the credit application to be successful even though I have also since found out that I had a pre existing medical condition too. I have had an offer from one of my claims already. I cannot stress to you enough to ignore the claims companies and do it yourself as it takes perhaps a few hours to get all the information you need together and fill out the forms and send it off. the only cost it the stamp. If you have any questions were happy to help.

      Good Luck!
