  • Can my friend claim PPI

Friend just about to get divorced and was the mainly stay at home parent for child.

Several PPIs taken out in ex's name as were the loans (main breadwinner and all that) but the payments were made from a joint account.

Might she be entitled to a share of compensation?

    Hi and welcome

Yes but if the loan was joint permission will be required as the ppi will still be split between your friend and her ex, even if ppi just covered for one person.

Hopefully they are in good terms and can do this together.

Thanks Di. Don't think either loan or PPI was in her name but only because she wouldn't be earning enough to get the loan in the first place and secondly because he was main breadwinner and therefore PPI for her would have been a waste of money.

Doubt there will be any permission given as its going to be one of those types of divorces. If she is not entitled then at least she ought to be able to claim that he is entitled to a lump sum and therefore has more assets I suppose.
