Re: halifax ppi refused
Hi aneate,
AFAIK, if you were s/employed, PPI would not cover you.
So if you had been paying for PPI cover, it should be refunded.

Re: halifax ppi refused
Yes indeedy - but no perhapsy, however. I believe BoS also covered the self-employed, but the conditions for claiming as a S/E policyholder were often (arguably) restrictive, and usually not explained clearly at the point of sale or in distance-sold documentation. For instance, a self-employed bricklayer who had been unable to work for a few weeks through injury might not be covered - whereas one who was employed as staff may have been. The self-employed person was often required to go through formalities to 'cease trading' or 'wind-up' his business - even though he expected to return to work later. So - although cover was provided - it was restricted, or restrictive.

I believe Turboman knows of another similar case involving a scaffolder or an aerial rigger.
Back to serious stuff, though - I note that Aneate says that he did not know he had PPI - and that in itself also indicates that it was mis-sold. If he was a victim of such 'mis-selling by stealth,' then he was not only being charged for PPI, but effectively precluded from claiming under the policy by being kept unaware of it. In that case, he may well have a good case for making a belated claim under the policy - along with compensation/damages, IMHO.
