  • HSBC and PPI

    Hi there,

I am midst reclaiming PPI on a mortgage and loan from HSBC. They have offered me a small amount against the loan but are not refunding on the mortgage PPI.

I have forwarded the complaint to OFT who telephoned me on Friday. I am claiming the misselling for the following reasons:

I was led to believe that the PPI had to be taken out in order for the mortgage to be processed.
I was working less than 16 hours per week.
My huisband was Self employed part of the time.

Also I lost my job in 2006 whilst paying PPI and tried to claim and was told I did not qualify - at which point I cancelled the PPI.

OFT have called and aske whether in addition to reclaiming PPI, I want to complain about being refused the claim in 2006. What does everyone think?

    Hi there
Well done on the loan PPI.

In regards of the mortgage PPI, did they issue you with the final decision?
If so they would usually have to confirm if your able to complain to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) or not, if eligible they should also enclose a leaflet of the FOS within the final letter.

I note you said about The Office of Fair Trading (OFT), I never actually realised they would have anything to do with rejections of ppi, unless I missed something along the line somewhere

Sorry, yes FOS. Duh! Yes HSBC gave their final decision at the same time they offered the loan PPI. Funny though loan and Mortgage were taken out at the same time, under the same circumstances

Thank you Di, Do you think I should also complain about the rejuected claim or just press on with the PPI claim?

          Hi there

Yes certainly! stand your ground, you could always contact the CEO to state the fact that you were sold Loan PPI the same time as Mortgage with PPI and disappointed they have rejected your case of the mortgage complaint via PPI, as you have the same reasons where they did uphold and accept your loan ppi complaint.
Say you are not happy with the outcome and feel they have overlooked on that particular complaint, and ask the CEO/Manager to look into the matter for you and contact you by say 14 days.

          Good luck.
