    Re: Halifax PPI claim

Thank you for that, Tony - I (and others here) would appreciate you letting us know exactly what Halifax have had to say on this matter. Credit to them - they appear to have been unusually open about their experiences in this aspect of PPI reclaiming, and I must applaud the openness of the person whom you have been dealing with. Perhaps their mention that this is the first of several similar claims to have challenged the Alternative Redress they have offered is an indication of the number of claims that simply take what they are offered without question. We do seem to be dealing with just the tip of the iceberg, sometimes - but it is good people like yourself that make it possible for others to benefit from such 'journeys into the unknown.'

As regards Jon's thoughts on this - I agree that the access to medical records seems to be another issue worth looking into more closely. If you were effectively coerced into giving permission for the lender to access your personal medical history before they would grant you a PPI policy (and - arguably - the loan itself...) - then that in itself may be unlawful under the DPA and/or the CCA. If they THEN accuse YOU of witholding medical information - when you subsequently make a claim under the PPI policy - then that must surely be seen as 'A Bridge Too Far' I feel (somebody please supply a better metaphor...!)

I agree, Jon - we need to get a decent handle on that aspect as well.

        Re: Halifax PPI claim

        Hi everyone,

Tony - brilliant news, well done and well done Bill too!

Another big THANK YOU to both of you and to everyone else on this thread - I received a 'phone call this morning from someone at Halifax in response to my own complaint (detailed on page 1 here). They have agreed that my partially upheld complaint will now be fully upheld as the alternative redress was not applicable (again due to a pre-existing medical condition).

I have no paperwork yet and do not know what the payment will be as I was told that their "calculator" is hard at work due to the change from partially to fully upheld. It does sound like there may be change with their internal policies and it will take them a while catch up. I will ask a few questions about their policies when the details come through and will let you know if they answer them.

        Thanks again!

        Mo
