  • Old Credit card - PPI reclaim

I took out a Barclaycard Visa card back in 1984 and finally cancelled it in 2010, however I wasn't sure if I had taken PPI out on it so called them, they claim that PPI was taken out in 2003 and cancelled in 2007. I have no recollection of taking this PPI out, and have no idea why I would have taken it in 2003 only to cancel it again in 2007. I apparently made a claim sometime between these dates, for one month, the only thing I can think when this might have been is when I called to say that I had been off work ill for 2 months so could I please make a reduced payment until I was back at work, I rember having to fill in some forms, but as I was quite ill (off for 5 months in total) I don't remember what they were, this would have been in 2004 so PPI would have been running then. They have sent me an extremely large form to fill in, but other than my Name, Address, DOB and card number I have no other information regarding the PPI, is there any way I can find out the relevant information to put this claim forward? I have no idea what date it was taken out (they would only tell me the years), how it was taken out (certainly not online back then) and tbh I didn't even know PPI existed back in 2003.

    Thanks,

    Kit

      Hi Kit

If you've not done so yet, you could try requesting a SAR (Subject access request) where they send you all the information they still hold on the account. Hopefully they will still hold all the details which may be of some help for you to get the ball rolling on this complaint.
Let us know if you want the template letter for this and one of us will be happy to post the SAR up for you to use.
With that you enclose the one payment of £10 cheque or postal order and they have up to 40 calendar days to comply.
If they're unable to track down any info, then they return your fee with a letter.

        Hi All,

Thank you for your replies. I didn't get a chance to send out the SAR request as yesterday I got the "tough luck we've rejected your claim" letter along with the "you can see if you have better luck with FOS" leaflet. I am not sure how they managed to investigate the claim as I hadn't sent back the completed questionnaire they sent out to "assist with their enquiries" ... any ideas where I go now other than to go ahead with the SAR?

        Thanks,
        Kit

          Hi Kit

I would write back, also send a copy of it to the CEO by email if you're able to and tell them, they have investigated an incomplete complaint, and you wish them to review into your complaint with the reasons you have now provided to them.
Ask them to let you know by 14 to 21 days max in order for you to decide to complain to the FOS etc.

It's wrong they say they rejected your complaint and yet they didnt give you the opportunity to complete the complaint form.

Keep at them, good luck x
